COUNSELING SERVICES
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is staying current with cutting-edge, evidence-based therapeutic practices. I do that by engaging in ongoing training for:
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual therapy is all about you. Together we will explore what is getting in the way of you being your authentic self – finding solutions for anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship issues, and other challenges. We may be able to accomplish this in a few sessions or we may need to explore all aspects of your life – mind, body, and spirit. Getting in touch with what you value most and identifying your obstacles is a process. We will work together to figure out how to get you where you want to go.
COUPLES THERAPY
Getting off track as a couple happens. Getting support for getting back on track takes courage. Whether you are feeling disconnected as a couple or there has been a substantial breach of trust, working with a therapist will support you in figuring out how to move forward. My work as a couple therapist is supported by research conducted by Drs John and Julie Gottman and Dr. Sue Johnson who have more than 40 years of work developing effective approaches to couple therapy.
INFIDELITY & BETRAYAL TRAUMA THERAPY
When the foundation of your most intimate relationship is breached by infidelity or other sexual betrayal your world turns upside down, sideways, and backwards. What you experience is traumatic. Getting the right support is not easy as many therapists do not fully understand that as a partner to a sex addict you have experienced ongoing trauma and your reactions to it parallel symptoms of PTSD. Attending to these symptoms before or in conjunction with couple therapy.
As the only Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT candidate) in Iowa, I provide unique resources as a therapist who understands betrayal trauma and sex addiction. I am trained by the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals and work in conjunction with other couples therapists and sex addiction therapists.
KETAMINE ASSISTED THERAPY & INTEGRATION
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) involves the use of ketamine to enhance and deepen the therapeutic process. When combined with the help of psychotherapy and other integrative forms of treatment, the curative effects of ketamine are amplified and prolonged.
Administered in low doses during a therapy session, ketamine can serve as a supportive partner to psychotherapy, as it provides an opportunity to soften psychological defenses. When this happens, it allows for deeper self-reflection and psychotherapeutic processing. In moderate doses, ketamine has psychedelic effects, which have been shown to facilitate profound transpersonal experiences. These types of incidents can help individuals in various ways, providing healing clarity and insight into one’s struggles.
Please be aware the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has designated Ketamine for the treatment of mental health disorders as an off-label treatment.
